Passport and Uniform Certificate of General Studies (UCGS) are programs in which all courses are transferable and contribute to the satisfaction of lower-division general education requirements at any Virginia public institution of higher education.
- Passport is a component of the UCGS, comprising six course blocks (Blocks 1-6)
- UCGS includes Passport courses plus an additional block (Block 7)
Students are required to complete the appropriate number of courses in each block to satisfy Passport and/or the UCGS.
Course selection should be carefully considered since the Passport and UCGS programs are not designed to capture the complexities of individual programs of study at the four-year institutions. Students should be advised to take the Passport and UCGS courses that best suit their intended program of study at the four-year institution. Only courses completed after May 2020 with a grade of C or better apply toward Passport and UCGS completion.
