PURPOSE

The Network Fundamentals CSC program builds beginning networking skills and helps to prepare students for the CompTIA A+ Certification and the CompTIA Network + Certification. It is recommended that students complete the A+ Certification before the Network+ Certification.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES

The Network Fundamentals CSC prepares students for entry-level positions including:

  • Hardware technician
  • Help desk technician
  • Technical support

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES 

  • Explain basic principles of networking including network topologies, protocols, and models such as the OSI and TCP/IP models
  • Describe types of network cables and connectors
  • Setup and troubleshoot physical network connections
  • Master network security basics including common threats, vulnerabilities, and security measures to protect network infrastructure
  • Identify network infrastructure components such as routers, switches, and firewalls, and their roles in a network

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • General college curricular admission

PROGRAM NOTES

  • The Network Fundamentals CSC fulfills 18 credit hours of the Cloud Computing Career Studies Certificate and the Cyber Security Career Studies Certificate, which fulfills concentration electives in the Information Systems Technology Associate of Applied Science degree
  • IT courses used for this program may not be more than 10 years old
  • Students should check their advisement report in SIS and meet with their faculty advisor

CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING
