PURPOSE
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Chemical Laboratory Technician is designed to prepare students for immediate employment as chemical technicians in industries such as pharmaceuticals, environmental testing, petrochemicals, manufacturing, and materials science. Developed in collaboration with regional employers, the program integrates rigorous coursework in chemistry, mathematics, and laboratory science with extensive hands-on training in chemical instrumentation, analysis, and quality assurance practices.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission to the Chemical Laboratory Technician AAS program will follow the open enrollment policy of Reynolds Community College. To support student success, applicants will be encouraged to demonstrate readiness for MTH 161 (Precalculus I) and ENG 111 (College Composition I) direct enrollment or prior coursework. Students who are not yet prepared for these courses will be guided into appropriate preparatory coursework concurrent with program entry. This approach ensures that students can access the program while also maintaining the academic foundation necessary to succeed in chemistry and laboratory science.
COMPUTER COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Students in this program will meet the college’s computer competency requirement within the CHM 235 and CHM 263 courses. Students will utilize several computer software programs to operate the instrumentation, interpret results as well as maintain standard operating procedures and laboratory records.
