Automotive Technology C (902)

PURPOSE: This curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for employment in the automotive repair industry as an apprentice-level technician.  Students will be trained in automotive diagnostic and repair procedures consistent with current industry trends.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES: Students who complete the Automotive Technology Certificate will be prepared to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exams for the areas of study completed.  This Certificate, along with ASE Credentials, can provide opportunities to become an Automotive Repair Technician, Service Writer/Advisor, and Parts Specialist.  The industry credentials earned through this certificate are nationally recognized.  

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 

In addition to the general college admission requirements, the following are required prior to admission into the program:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Clean driving record 
  • Completion of, or concurrent enrollment in, SDV 101 - Orientation to Automotive Careers course. Students who are interested in this program, but are not ready to commit, can self-enroll in the SDV 101 - Orientation to Automotive Careers course.  This course is required and also satisfies the college’s SDV 100 requirement.  
  • Able to fulfill all hiring requirements at a service and repair facility. 
  • The General Automotive program is a semi-selective entry process.  Students currently working in the field of automotive repair will have priority seating. 
  • Students are required to meet with the program head before registering for their first semester.  

PROGRAM NOTES:   The General Automotive Program provides theory and practice on modern vehicles, but does not specialize in any specific brand.  The completion of this certificate provides entry into the General Automotive Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree pathway.  An internship component will be required to complete this certificate.  

This program is accredited through the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation and all instructors are ASE Certified Master Technicians with advanced-level certifications.  

COMPUTER COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT: Students in this program will meet the college’s computer competency requirement by successfully completing the SDV 101  - Orientation to Automotive Careers and AUT 101  - Introduction to Automotive Service courses.
