PURPOSE
With the rapid development of business and industry in Virginia, there is a great demand for qualified personnel in business administration to provide leadership for this economic growth. The Associate of Science degree with a major in Business Administration is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree in business administration.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Identify and analyze ethical issues in business
- Communicate effectively using multiple methods (oral, written, graphic, electronic)
- Critically analyze major concepts in the functional areas of business (planning, organizing, leading, controlling) and correlate with real-world scenarios
- Analyze financial statements using generally accepted accounting principles
- Discuss basic economic principles related to macroeconomic and microeconomic theories
- Locate, evaluate, interpret, and combine information to reach well-reasoned conclusions or solutions
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment

PROGRAM NOTES
Students are advised to complete four units of English, three units of college preparatory mathematics, and one unit of laboratory science in high school. This program aligns with the Transfer Virginia Business Administration common curriculum, including foundational coursework in business, economics, accounting, mathematics, natural sciences, and humanities. Students should consult their academic advisor early to select electives that satisfy both Reynolds degree requirements and those of their target transfer college. Students are advised to complete the AS degree at the community college, choosing courses that satisfy both the requirements of their targeted transfer four-year college, as indicated by the Transfer Portal, as well as the AS degree. Students who plan to transfer out-of-state should review that specific college’s catalog and contact their admissions office directly before selecting courses.
This degree satisfies the requirements for the Uniform Certificate of General Studies (UCGS). Refer to the program roadmap for specific UCGS course options.
COMPUTER COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT
Students in this program will meet the college’s computer competency requirement by successfully completing SDV 101 .
