PURPOSE

The Floral Design Career Studies Certificate (CSC) program is intended primarily for students seeking employment in the floral design business, or those presently employed in the field who wish to upgrade or enhance their skills.

The program is also available for those who wish to establish credentials to demonstrate their expertise for exhibiting and judging.

OCCUPATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Catering, corporate, wedding floral designer
Owner/operator of independent florist business
Production, sale, and display of cut flowers at farmers’ markets
Retail floral department manager/staff

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

Properly price floral arrangements for industry standards related to markup (profit)
Identify common cut flowers and foliage used in the floral industry

General college curricular admission

Skills needed:

Good manual dexterity skills
Eye for color and design

All courses required for completion of this certificate can be applied to the AAS degree in Horticulture Technology.

HRT 266 - Advanced Floral Design Credit Hours: 3
HRT 268 - Advanced Floral Design Applications Credit Hours: 3
HRT 106 - Practical Horticulture Credit Hours: 1 or
HRT 190 - Coordinated Internship in Horticulture Credit Hours: 1 or
Humanities/Social Sciences Elective (PHI 220 , ECO 150 , PSY 200 , SOC 200 ) Credit Hours: 3 or
HRT 121 - Greenhouse Crop Production I Credit Hours: 3

Total: 16 Credit Hours
